about

Tiger: The lyrics of Undeserved were inspired by a video clip I saw of a police officer using an excessive (not to mention unjustified) amount of pepper-spray on a group of peaceful protesters. As I was a member of my college's Amnesty International group I had recently been made aware of the general issue of Human Rights violations in their many forms therefore the video shocked and angered me.

The lyrics I came out with ended up very violent in nature and I luckily still manage to sing them with the same aggression that I felt when Undeserved was originally written. However this song has always stood out as the only genuinely angry song I've written and I'm interested to see if I ever manage to replicate that strength in future songs.

One interesting thing regarding the original video clip that inspired Undeserved (side-note this happened well after the completion of this song), is that the man who pepper-sprayed the students ended up being paid nearly $40,000 in compensation for psychiatric damage caused to him in response to the video. Which leaves me in an awkward moral position, it's nice to know the perpetrator felt guilt for what he did but it's sad to see that the people who reacted to this abuse then went on to cause further mental abuse. Either way the concepts of justice, abuse and remorse are certainly debatable in this particular case.

lyrics

Burning lungs from liquid hell,
A fate most undeserved,
Button pressed and cloud unleashed,
Justice somehow served.

What provoked you to attack those who would just not fight back?
And what exactly did you gain from causing them such pain?

Broken bones and bloodied skin,
The dreaded baton's curse,
Reaper waves his mighty blade,
How could hell be any worse?

What provoked you to attack those who would just not fight back?
And what exactly did you gain from causing them such pain?

Pitchfork red from crowd serene,
The blood it pours and yet it gleams.
